Draupadi and the Endless Fabric
Original Script, Choreography, Music and Staging by
Feliza Bascara-Zohar
(Debuted 2021, translated to English & re-envisioned in 2025)
In her original one-woman show, Feliza Bascara-Zohar's captivating storytelling, dance, song and live looping bring ancient archetypes to life.
This is the miraculous tale of the fire-born Queen Draupadi and her five husbands, the legendary Pandava brothers of the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata. This unique retelling shines a spotlight on Draupadi's often marginalized experience and raises age-old questions of the lost female perspective throughout human history. Both vilified and deified at once, from a psychological standpoint, she represents the complexity of the psyche and the fe/male gaze.
Juggling relationships with the five, Draupadi navigates between love and duty, between revenge and compassion, and between material and spirit. Can the ever-flowing fabric of her extraordinary sari save the day? Feliza Bascara-Zohar evokes Draupadi’s timeless spirit in a drama that resonates profoundly today.
Feliza Bascara-Zohar is a multi-disciplinary artist known for her lyrical voice and presence. For nearly two decades, she has been crafting powerful original performance works that blend her music, vocal artistry, choreography, storytelling, and theatrical vision. She researches and explores the universal meanings found in the stories and folklore of diverse traditions, in order to bring these stories to audiences and invite them into a space of reflection, connection, and new perspectives.
